“The Wire” is coming back to HBO starting September 4th in HD!
For those of you that have already experienced “The Wire” this may not say sound like amazing news but for those who have yet to experience the show, now is the perfect time to catch up. “The Wire” has been on HBO Go for quite some time now but unfortunately the show fell behind the HD standard as it is only presented in 4:3 letterbox rather than the 16:9 standard.
I watch many shows but despite everyone telling me that I must watch “The Wire” (just like everyone insists on “Breaking Bad”), my refined TV palate was resilient to the non-HD format. I know it seems a bit petty to avoid such a critically acclaimed show due to a visual format, but the factor was more of a deterrent rather than a complete shunning of the show. I chose to catch up on a variety of other shows that met my visual standards and always said that I would eventually get to “The Wire.”
Because of the HD standard, I believe that the remastered version of “The Wire” will create an entirely new audience as well as bring some fans back to rewatch the series. I can’t personally vouch for the show (having not seen it) but I will say that I am excited to now put “The Wire” on my priority list.
The official TV Guide listing has episode 3 scheduled for September 8, 2014 which would place episode 1 and 2 around that September 4 timeframe. To the new and old viewers, is this exciting news? Will you be watching?

I've actually had a hard time getting friends into it because it's in 4:3. I agree, I think this will open it up to a new audience, which is great because it really is one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
