Anne Hathaway joins Robert De Niro in this trailer for “The Intern.”
Robert De Niro seems to be taking on a lot of roles poking fun at his age. With his Sylvester Stallone boxing comedy “Grudge Match” and the upcoming Dirty Grandpa, “The Intern” fits right in with his brand of “old timer” comedy. In “The Intern” De Niro plays an older and experienced professional that takes on an internship under young and thriving CEO (Anne Hathaway). Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!
There isn’t anything particular about this film that interests me. As said, Robert De Niro is becoming typecast in these types of “old guy” comedies and they are all becoming a bit redundant. And speaking of redundancy, the concept of “The Intern” is not too far off from “The Internship” starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. Honestly if you’re going to take the same concept and make the same jokes about old versus young, at least make the title a bit more distinguishable rather than just dropping the “ship” part of a previous film’s title.
I love both Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. They are both extremely talented individuals but this film is obviously a cookie-cutter paycheck rather than a substantial project to further their career. De Niro has already proven himself as an iconic actor and Anne Hathaway is incredibly talented, so it is a disappointment to see them both in a film like this. But while the signs are pointing to this film being a stereotypical comedy, we could be proven wrong and it could be a sleeper. Maybe De Niro and Hathaway’s talents will overshadow the borderline forced laughter and we’ll get something genuine. But for now, I’m going to say that the trailer has left me with little interest in seeing the film.
