The trailer for “Dunkirk,” Christopher Nolan’s upcoming World War II film, premiered today!
Starring Tom Hardy, Bridge of Spies star Mark Rylance, and newcomer Fionn Whitehead, “Dunkirk” will be Christopher Nolan’s first World War II based film. Having a factual and historical basis, “Dunkirk” will tell the story of Operation Dynamo – a last attempt move to save 300,000 Allied troops surrounded by Nazis in the French seaport of Dunkirk. Check out the first teaser trailer below.
While there have been many films about World War II, I’m particularly interested to see how Christopher Nolan’s vision will compare with so many others. Many highly regarded directors have been behind films based on this period of war and many of those films were well received by audiences and critics. It’s a subject matter that does particularly well with general audiences and with this being Nolan’s first, I’m sure the anticipation for “Dunkirk” will continue to build.
Given that the release date is set for next year, I wouldn’t expect to see a lot of media circulating anytime soon. Christopher Nolan likes to confine his films into the realm of mystery up until their release and I’m guessing that will be the same trend with “Dunkirk.” One thing that we do know is that the film was shot by his “Interstellar” collaborator Hoyte van Hoytema using 65mm and IMAX film cameras. So expect this film to follow the usual Christopher Nolan appeal of stunning, larger scale visuals.
“Dunkirk” is slated for release on July 19, 2017.
