Tom Cruise thinks “Top Gun 2” would be fun, but has a demand!
Many may say “Risky Business” is the start of Tom Cruise’s career but it was “Top Gun” that made him iconic. Coming up on the film’s 30th anniversary many fans have been hoping for Cruise to reprise his role of Maverick for a sequel. In a recent interview with Extra, the actor seems to be onboard but has one stipulation to put on the flight suit once more.
Tom shared, “If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do, I’d like to fly those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI on the jets… I’m saying right now no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun.”
I have to admit, that’s not a bad demand. The film industry is capitalizing on green screen work and Hollywood is saturated by CGI. The original “Top Gun” was quite a spectacle without any of the technological bells and whistles of today. For “Top Gun 2” to happen, I would have to agree with Tom Cruise‘s insistence regarding “no CGI.” The real footage that accompanied the original film was a part of what made it so iconic. While CGI has made leaps and bounds from what it once was, I still think that the human eye can recognize the fallacies that exist in comparison to real life. As a fan of the original film, I think that “Top Gun 2” needs to have a focus on real jets and real jet noise. If they can stay true to what made “Top Gun” so unique, I think a sequel could be both justified and entertaining.

I dont think its wise to recreate top gun in todays word. It would spoil the name and the sequel cant get even half as good as the 1st one. Since we're simply out of the fighter jet era. I just think everyone would be dissapointed thats all.
Lets keep Top Gun in memmory of 80s music and F-14 Tomcats.
