We officially know what “Thor: Ragnarok” is all about!
While mystery has surrounded Marvel Studios’ upcoming film “Thor: Ragnarok,” we’ve finally got a little light shed on the details. Today the official synopsis for the film was released which details the events that take place, the characters involved, and the obstacles that Thor must overcome.
“In Marvel Studios’ ”Thor: Ragnarok”, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”
From this synopsis it sounds like they will be mixing elements of the Planet Hulk comic book series into “Thor: Ragnarok.” The “gladiatorial contest” sounds very much like the events that took place in the comic book with a bit of a twist. In the official comic, Hulk faced off against Silver Surfer and in the animated film he faced Beta Ray Bill who also shared Thor-like powers. Mark Ruffalo has teased a “Planet Hulk” storyline in the past showing interest in a solo film, but “Thor: Ragnarok” may be the means of compromising.

We know that Hela will be played by Cate Blanchett and we also know that there will be a few newcomers in “Thor: Ragnarok.” Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Karl Urban (Skurge), and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) will all be new additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition we can expect a few crossover characters including the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
“Thor: Ragnarok” will be directed by Taika Waititi and is set for release on November 3, 2017.
