So it’s been a while since we had an article about Star Wars on this site, time to fix that.
No this isn’t about a part of a possible real leaked image from the production of Episode 8 or “Rogue One” that many members of the press died to bring us being revealed and everyone doing full-blown news stories examining and speculating. We have something a little more tangible here. A trailer for a new documentary about Star Wars. Ok neat, always cool but why make any major note of it? Well it’s because this fan documentary is going to be about the Prequel Trilogy and why it’s under-appreciated called “The Prequels Strike Back: A Fan’s Journey”. And just typing that last sentence I can almost hear Vader’s “Nnnnooooooooooo!” on the wind from the hardcore original trilogy fans.
Here’s the trailer which just recently debuted;
The film is being made by a YouTube channel that goes by the name Ministry of Cinema which seems to specialize in online documentaries with this being their most ambitious project. There seems to be no theatrical distribution planned which is a shame as from the trailer this looks theatre worthy in quality (plus everything’s better in a theatre). Instead, it looks like it’ll be made available over YouTube and Amazon.
On the comment section for the trailer I already see a bunch of comments like “But are they going to give equal time to the original trilogy side of the argument?” Because yeah guys, we’re SO under represented in popular culture. The people must learn why we strange fellows like the Original Trilogy better. People, we had our own Goddamn feature documentary devoted to us with “The People vs George Lucas”! I think we can let the Prequel fans have the floor for a bit. I’ll even admit as much as I didn’t like them I did come away from my re-watching with some appreciation so certain aspects in the Prequels I didn’t notice before. For me the issue is that there are still too many other issues that time hasn’t changed that ruin them for me personally. However this is a thought I’ve had kicking around in my brain ever since I went to see “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” in theaters, after the movie was finished I went to use the restroom. While waiting in line I noticed a man and his very young son also waiting. The dad went “You know I was about your age when the very first of these films came out?” I’ve heard one side of the argument, (I know it as a fan myself) now it’s time to hear that kid’s side.
This documentary will digitally release on September 14th.
