‘The Flash’ Movie Loses Another Director

Rick Famuyiwa drops out of “The Flash.”

While the majority of the DCEU films have had more than their fair share of production troubles, “The Flash” appears to have things tougher than most.  The film’s would-be director Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope”) has now left the project over you guessed it, “creative differences.”  This latest setback is also likely to delay the film’s production and eventual release.

Reportedly, the creative differences in question stem from Famuyiwa wanting to make the movie more edgy which clashed with the vision of the studio.  DC’s latest releases Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad were both financially successful but not particularly well received.  Some have argued the reason for that (among other things) were the films’ overly dark tones.  The studio has been promoting their future releases with more lightheartedness since then.  Knowing all of this, it really comes as no surprise that Famuyiwa’s vision didn’t mesh with DC’s.

“I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Bros., DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time “The Flash” has lost a director.  Originally, screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith was set to make his directorial debut with the film until he backed out in April under similar circumstances.

The film currently stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Billy Crudup as Henry Allen.

Who do you think should direct ‘”he Flash?”

This was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
