“Tetris” the ever popular video game is now being made into a feature film!
How is this possible? “Tetris” is a game about shifting colored blocks and there is no story behind it, it’s just that simple. Well apparently simplicity and lack of substance is a feeble matter when it comes to monetary gain. Here’s what the Tetris Company Managing Director had to say.
In a press release, Tetris Company managing director Henk Rogers chimed in with some additional thoughts on the upcoming film. “What started as a simple, computer puzzle game 30 years ago, today is part of our global consciousness, connecting people of all ages and backgrounds and feeding our innate desire to create order out of chaos. We look forward to partnering with Threshold Entertainment to re-imagine that common experience and bring a spectacular new Tetris universe to the big screen for the first time. In this new universe, as you’ll soon find out, there’s much more to Tetris than simply clearing lines.”
From that description the plot sounds rather vague but we can assume that the film will have a connection with “Tetris” but its plot won’t be about shifting blocks. Given it will fall into the sci-fi realm and the quote of “innate desire to create order out of chaos” describing the film’s premise, I’d say we could have a rather thought-provoking, existential film. The first film that comes to mind is Darren Aronofsky’s “Pi” that stems from a mathematical equation that eventually drives someone insane. Maybe even the cult-classic film “Cube” could be a good point of reference.
Hopefully they can produce a very thought provoking film that does far better than loose adaptations like “Battleship.”
What do you think? Is this going to be a video game triumph or flop?
