Streaming Media Alert – Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime
Streaming media has become a staple now in our lives. “Cable cutters” are popping up left and right with the low cost of online streaming thanks to services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and the more recent premium services like HBO Go. Here are a few noteworthy updates for these services for the July 11, 2014 weekend.
Netflix
Homefront
For those who love to see Jason Statham kick some ass, Homefront provides that with a southern twist. Accompanied by James Franco who plays a troublesome redneck, Homefront is a bit of mindless fun for the Netflix streamers.
Out of the Furnace
Out of the Furnace has a laundry list of A-List actors. Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, and Woody Harrelson star in the film, but there’s even more sprinkled throughout the film. It may be progressively slow for some but if you’re a performance driven viewer, you may be very pleased with the film.
HBO Go
Taken 2
Being another mindless action film, Taken 2 is meant to exploit the popularity of Liam Neeson as an action star, particularly from the first film in the series. Like the first film, Taken 2 is almost laughable at times with the over the top action and dialogue but I can’t deny it being fun to watch. HBO Go updates weekly but this film was of particular interest for this week’s updates.
Amazon Prime
Workaholics – Season 4
Workaholics is a Comedy Central show that had me in tears during the first season. While the later seasons weren’t as funny, I still found myself laughing quite a bit. Most recently the fourth season has hit Amazon and I recommend to anyone looking for a slapstick comedy series.
Multiple HBO Series
Amazon recently partnered with HBO and has added a variety of acclaimed HBO programming. A few notable that I would recommend would be East Bound & Down and Boardwalk Empire for the more recent shows. As far as the older programming goes, there is a plethora of great programming that has recently shown up including Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Oz, and Big Love to name a few. If you’re a stranger to HBO programming and an Amazon Prime member, it sounds like you might have a full weekend with their new lineup.
