What’s the future of “Indiana Jones?” Listen to what Steven Spielberg has to say!
Ever since Lucasfilm was bought out by Disney (and after all the questions about Star Wars) the question that’s been asked by movie fans everywhere is how does this affect the Indiana Jones series? The studio is adamant that there will be more sequels. Another big question is would director Steven Spielberg still be involved? According to Yahoo News the director had a few words to say.
“I am hoping one day to make it to an Indiana Jones V. I would hope to make it before Harrison Ford is 80 and I get much older…”
In addition Harrison Ford has been on record many times voicing his support for another chance to wear the fedora and whip. This could come as a surprise to some as the internet has been filled with articles about recasting Indiana Jones (mostly with Chris Pratt) but Spielberg also had some opinions on that. In an interview with Screen Daily Spielberg further explored the idea.
“It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford.”
Now how accurate is all of this? It depends on how involved Steven Spielberg is with the new film. Disney is technically not under any obligation to include him. Some have made the argument that since “Indiana Jones” was created to be a James Bond type of character that they should be able to recast him like Bond. Others argue that after “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls” that this is the only way to continue the series. Although as that film indicated, Indy was active between the end of “Last Crusade” and the beginning of “Crystal Skulls” so they could easily pull a “Temple of Doom” and make this a prequel set in between that time. Obviously the sky is the limit for where Disney could go but many would agree if they want Harrison Ford for at least one more film, they better get things going sooner rather than later.
Do you agree or disagree with Steven Spielberg about recasting Indy?
