“Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” has officially landed on Netflix.
While it may come as shock to many, the rumors have been there and now it looks like they’ve become a reality. While “someone” was cruising through Brazil’s streaming list of Netflix media, that “someone” happened to make the discovery that one of the original “Star Wars” films happened to be on that list.
But while the film appears on the Brazilian Netflix streaming list, it unfortunately does not appear on the list for viewers in the United States. Regardless of this disappointing fact, having “Star Wars” streaming on Netflix anywhere is a big deal and has a lot of potential. This puts us one step further towards a confirmation that we will have the option to stream “Star Wars” movie content through a much cheaper and convenient means. It also furthers my support for why you should NOT buy Star Wars digital copies.
Now for the rest of us fans, I’m sure you’re wondering about the details of the “Star Wars: A New Hope” version that is streaming. Unfortunately it is not the original cut that we’ve been yearning for. Han does not shoot first. This is still the remastered cut with all of George Lucas’ edits. But hey, it’s still “Star Wars” right?
As a fan myself, this is some very exciting news for me. Not just because of the potential of “Star Wars” coming to Netflix, but for the fact that Disney having control of “Star Wars” could mean content won’t be under a lock and key like with Lucas. This seems like a small step but I see it as a giant leap for the future of “Star Wars” when it comes to the fans.

I just want to point out that this isn't Disney's doing. Don't forget, A New Hope is owned by both Lucasfilm and Fox (the latter owning all distribution rights for perpetuity so likely it's Fox's doing here).
Great, News!!!
