A “Star Wars” TV series is in the works for Netflix!
It’s been talked about in the past but when George Lucas owned the property, a Star Wars TV series never happened. Now with Disney taking the reins of the franchise, things may actually start happening.
According to an exclusive from CineLinx, Disney is looking to expand their Netflix partnership much like they did with Marvel. Reportedly, the negotiations in the works are centered around not one but three different live action shows on the streaming service.
Disney is looking to continue their partnership with Netflix for their Star Wars shows. Yes, I said shows. I’ve heard there’s talk of potentially three different live-action shows for Netflix, in much the same way Marvel has deals in place for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc.
If this deal goes through (and is valid), then it is obvious that Disney is attempting the same proven formula they have used with Marvel. With multiple spinoffs confirmed in addition to the official sequels, Star Wars television series just makes sense. It makes even more sense happening on Netflix given the success of their original series and the Marvel related show “Daredevil.” Even though I’m excited for this potential news, I’m not surprised.
While I’m excited to see anything “Star Wars” pop up, as a fan I wonder about how this change of pace will affect the franchise. We waited over 15 years for the next three films to follow “Return of the Jedi,” and 10 years later we get a surprise with “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.” But what’s different this time around is that we’re going to get at least one film every year following the release of “The Force Awakens.” I’m sure we’ll flock to every one that’s released but I do wonder about the impact of the lack of a waiting period. If we have a film every year and a Netflix TV series, will the fan appreciation for the franchise change?
