The franchise that has boldly taken audiences to new frontiers is returning to theaters with ‘Star Trek Beyond’ with a bigger and bolder IMAX movie experience.
Paramount Pictures is teaming up with the blockbuster machine that is Skydance Media as well as Bad Robot and the IMAX Corporation. The reason – It has been announced that “STAR TREK BEYOND,” the third film in the space-faring franchise, will be digitally re-mastered into IMAX format and is slated to be released in IMAX theaters worldwide beginning July 22, 2016.

Since the franchise rekindling release of J.J. Abram’s “STAR TREK” in 2009, the “Star Trek” reboot film franchise has accrued more than $850 million. Of course, with Abram departing ‘Star Trek’ in favor of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII,’ fans of the recently re-invented film series will have high expectations for new director Justin Lin (‘Fast & Furious 6’). Lin seems to be banking on the allure of IMAX to placate audiences.

Skydance Media brings an extensive slate of commercially and critically successful feature films to the table, including recent blockbusters ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,’ ‘Terminator Genisys,’ ‘World War Z,’ ‘Jack Reacher,’ ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,’ ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ and ‘True Grit.’ Between ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ and ‘Terminator Genisys’ alone, Skydance grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Their future feature film slate includes, of course, Star Trek Beyond and ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.’
“Star Trek Beyond” reunites an all-star cast featuring Jon Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spok, Zoë Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones and Anton Yeltsin as Chekov. Screen veterans and series newcomers Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, Lydia Wilson and Joe Taslima round out the top billings for this Gene Roddenberry inspired space trilogy topper.
