Has Sony finally decided to allow Spider-Man to collaborate with the Avengers?
Sony is rumored to be collaborating with Marvel due to the difficulty they’ve had with the Spider-Man franchise as of late. In order to gain some footing with the franchise there have been rumblings of a deal between Marvel and Sony that would bring Spider-Man to the Marvel cinematic Universe and “blow fandom’s minds.”
Sony, on the other hand, may be doing things the opposite way. While I can’t get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I’m hearing that there are some very cool “Spider-Man” plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds. Will it work out? I don’t know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it’s happening. What seems clear from what I’ve heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again.
I feel like this keeps happening and fans keep getting let down. There have been rumors of deals between Sony and Marvel in the past that fell through. Even the slightest connection between the two character arcs have gotten caught up in so much legal red tape and disagreeance that they never come to fruition.
If you ask me, I would say to not get your hopes up until something is 100% solidified. There is always talk amongst studios but it always comes down to profitability first and film-making second. The best possible way for this to work would be a solution that is equally lucrative for both parties. If they cannot see a profit bigger than what they can already make with their particular franchise then this will be a difficult road ahead.
How do you feel about such a rumor?
