‘Sisters’ is Typical but Enjoyable Amy Poehler and Tina Fey Laughs

“Sisters” brings together Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for some new and nostalgic laughs.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey team up in “Sisters” to bring us the comedic gold we’d expect from the duo. While the film had its expected laughs, it did have its faults. So let’s continue on to see what direction the good/bad scale tipped for “Sisters.”

Cinematics (Cinematography, Acting, Etc.) – 2.5

The plot of “Sisters” is a very generic and simple one. Playing to an “Odd Couple” type scenario, you have two characters that are at opposite ends of the spectrum. One sister is an unctuous perfectionist (Poehler) and the other is an untidy party-goer (Fey). It’s no surprise that this film is setup for each of them to learn from each other.

The simplicity carries on throughout other elements including the character development and theme. There’s little complexity to the characters and their problems. Also their environment is very confined. But despite the one dimensional nature of “Sisters,” the Amy Poehler and Tina Fey comedy duo bring on the laughs we’d expect.

If there were ever a comedic duo to be labeled as real-life sisters, then these two would definitely be the pair. Their performances are genuine and their strong real-life bond carries over into the film. Their relationship adds an honest and engaging element to the film that makes the sisterly laughs more humorous in addition to their already established brand of humor.

The humorous fun is this film’s strength but overall it is a bit lacking in the realm of cinematic quality.

Entertainment Value – 4

…it’s a lot of fun for fans of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey

“Sisters” is a film not intended to carry cinematic clout. Entertainment value is where this film excels and it’s a lot of fun for fans of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, or those just looking for a laugh.

There is a nice blend of humor throughout with both dialogue and situational laughs remaining consistent. Whether it be the duo showing off their awkwardness in scandalous attire or just banter between them, “Sisters” is a film where many can find a laugh.

In addition to Poehler and Fey, there are a plethora of surprise cameos throughout the film. Some cameo stars create their own brand of humor by being placed out of their norm. Others bring iconic sketch humor with the appearance of a few Saturday Night Live cast members and alumni appearing in the film.

If you’re looking for laughs and like the brand of humor that comes from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, then I’m sure that you will enjoy “Sisters.”

Re-Watchability – 3.5

A lot of the laughs throughout this film can be re-had over and over again. A lot of the situational humor and flair from the film’s main stars carry on into multiple viewings.

There are a few surprise moments that lose their luster after the initial viewing, but “Sisters” should be a film that can entertain you individually or in a group setting. As I have reiterated many times throughout this review, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler know comedy and “Sisters” is an example of what can happen when these two collaborate.

Blu Ray Extras

I have to say that I LOVE the extras on this Blu Ray. There are surprisingly so many things to watch after you’re done watching the film. There are the obvious like deleted scenes and director commentary, but then there’s other elements like gag reels and full feature sketches. For a film such as this I would expect the standard bonus features but “Sisters” definitely knocks it out of the park!

Summary

"Sisters" is a generic film with its strong points lying in areas of comedic entertainment. It may carry a simple plot with simple characters but that can be overlooked when focusing on the laughs to be had. It isn't the best comedy I've seen but it did make me laugh and I'm sure it will get a few laughs out of you as well.
