Regardless of its poor reception, Simon Kinberg wants more Fantastic Four!
The 2015 “Fantastic Four” reboot was one of the worst comic book films of all time. Not only was it poorly received by critics but its box office numbers were atrocious. While many would expect for Fox to call it quits on the franchise, prominent Fox producer Simon Kinberg says otherwise.
“We want to make another Fantastic Four movie. We love that cast – I mean if I were to say to you now Michael B Jordan and Miles Teller, and Kate [Mara] and Jamie [Bell] are great actors – we love that cast. I love the comic, I mean I love it almost as much as X-Men.”
Kinberg may love the franchise and love the comic but it’s going to be tough to alleviate the bad taste in everyone’s mouth from the last film. He attributes much of the film’s failure to the story and tone (and I would agree). This may be an indirect jab at director Josh Trank and his notorious behavior on set. Josh Trank adamantly believed in separating “Fantastic Four” from its comic book source material and now Kinberg agrees that was a bad decision. He hopes to give fans a much “brighter” film as the comic book characters were portrayed as such in the comic books.
“We’ll try to be truer to the essence of the tone of Fantastic Four, which is completely – well, not completely, but largely – distinct from the X-Men, which is brighter, funner, more optimistic tone. I think we tried to make a darker Fantastic Four movie, which seemed like a radical idea but we were kind of messing with the DNA of the actual comic instead of trusting the DNA of the comic.”
If Fox moves forward with a sequel, they should heavily invest in their marketing campaign. This is going to be a tough sell for audiences regardless of what their plans are. There is no certainty regarding this project but in my opinion, Fox should know when to fold their hand. Maybe it’s time to sell to Marvel and focus on properties like Deadpool.
Would you give Fox a second chance with “Fantastic Four?”

I didn't watch the first one. Heard it was alright but suffered from a really poor final act. I enjoyed the older FF movies, and don't get why they catch grief. They were fun.
