Comedic duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will adapt the comic series “Preacher” for AMC TV.
“This is the End” creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have teamed up once again, but this time not for a comedy…I hope. AMC has greenlit an adaptation of the controversial comic book series “Preacher” with Rogen and Goldberg set to produce and direct the pilot episode. While this may not be their comedic norm, both have expressed deep interest in the comic book series and were enthusiastic about adapting it to television.
“Preacher has been our favorite comic since it first came out,” Rogen & Goldberg said. “Garth Ennis is one of our idols and it’s an incredible honor to be working on this. We promise we won’t make too many dick jokes and ruin it.”
“Preacher” is about a small town Texas Preacher named Jesse Custer. After merging with a being from heaven, he gains the ability of “super-persuasion” allowing him to make people do as he says. In addition to his powers, he is also accompanied by an Irish vampire named Cassidy who joins him on a journey to find God.
With Rogen’s promise of light humor and Sam Caitlin (“Breaking Bad”) behind the script, this is bound to be AMC’s next hit show. With series like “The Walking Dead”, which is also based on comic, and the undisputed hit “Breaking Bad”, the success formula definitely seems to be there. Given the subject matter, I’m expecting that controversy will also gain infamy for the show. Liberties taken with religion always stir people up but in this case, I think it will just push the ratings higher.
Do you think “Preacher” will be AMC’s next big hit?
