Robert Downey Jr. will do “Iron Man 4” only if Mel Gibson directs??
Robert Downey Jr. is not signed on for “Iron Man4” but according to a recent interview, he claims that he would do the film only if Mel Gibson would direct. While it may seem like an odd choice given Mel Gibson’s controversially insensitive remarks towards certain cultures, Gibson is actually a very well received director.
DEADLINE: True, but the year he made Apocalypto, I didn’t see a better movie and he was ignored and hasn’t directed since. Marvel badly wants Iron Man 4 and you’ve said you aren’t doing it. How about the idea you’ll do that movie if Mel directs it?
DOWNEY: Correct.
If we look at Mel Gibson from an entirely professional perspective, I think he is talented in many areas, especially in the director’s seat. He’s won an Academy Award for “Braveheart” and received intense critical acclaim for “Apocalypto” and “The Passion of the Christ.” Outside of his personality, he is an absolutely amazing choice for film, but unfortunately he’s not wanted by much of Hollywood.
Disney has a certain reputation to uphold and now that applies to all of their child companies including Marvel. They are known as wholesome and family oriented so being associated with the anti-semitic remarks of Mel Gibson could tarnish their name. Because of this, I’m very certain that “Iron Man 4” is very unlikely based on Robert Downey Jr.’s comments.
Would any of you like to see Mel Gibson direct the next Iron Man?

Yeah, considering Walt Disney's history they have to be careful with anything antisemitic.
