‘Rampage’ Film Adaptation Begins Filming Starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

“Rampage” has officially begun filming.

As the next video game to get the film adaptation treatment, “Rampage” has officially begun filming. While the game itself fell more into the realm of humor, the premise for the film adaptation leads us to believe this movie will have a more serious tone. With a laundry list of high profile cast members alongside Dwayne Johnson, this film may not be as bad as some would speculate.

Johnson’s Rampage character is a primatologist and the head of an anti-poaching unit operating in Rwanda, who is called upon to save the day when gigantic, mutated versions of a crocodile, a gorilla and a wolf are set loose on the unsuspecting world. Malin Akerman (Billions) plays the villainous head of the company responsible for creating said giant monsters in Rampage, with Oscar-nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike XXL) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) among those rounding out the main cast of the film.

Whenever a popular video game gets the green light for being adapted to film, we tend to hope for the best but also not get our hopes up. With the video game film market continually failing critically, the genre itself has been somewhat profitable. With Dwayne Johnson being the marketable name he is, “Rampage” could be aiming for those big box office numbers with total disregard for any sort of cinematic acclaim.

Rampage” has a current working date of April 20, 2018. It is being directed by Brad Peyton who is known for many other Dwayne Johnson films such as “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” and “San Andreas.” In addition, Peyton also has sequels in the works for the two films mentioned where Dwayne Johnson will reprise his roles. Another video game adaptation of “Just Cause” is also in the works with Jason Momoa set to play the key character Rico.
