FXM gives a brief look into Donald Glover’s new TV movie “Atlanta.”
Donald Glover is man of many talents. After leaving Community in pursuit of his music career as Childish Gambino, he’s had roles in a number of films and been nominated for a Grammy. But while many thought we’d never see him back on the small screen, FXM did an interview with the artist about an upcoming TV movie premiering on their network.
The TV movie will be titled “Atlanta” and could possibly be an outlet for Donald Glover to explore both of his passions. The show surrounds a struggling hip hop artist and is (obviously) based in Atlanta, Georgia. Take a look at the FXM interview below.
Isiah Whitlock (The Wire) will also have role in the series alongside Donald Glover and rising star Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton). The root of the story will surround Donald Glover’s character Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks who is a college dropout moving his way up through the Atlanta rap scene. His cousin in the show will provide a different perspective of rap stardom and their two careers will be pitted against one another with the underlying theme of art versus commerce.
I’m personally very excited to see Donald Glover in this project. While I hated to see him go from “Community,” his albums “Because the Internet” and “Kauai” under Childish Gambino are essentials on my personal playlist. With “Atlanta,” we may get the chance to see Donald Glover merge with his alter ego Childish Gambino and give us the best of both worlds.
While “Atlanta” seems like it’s very close to premiering, there is currently no set date on its release. Regardless, fans of both Donald Glover and Childish Gambino will surely tune in for the premiere.
