Even without the CGI, “Mad Max: Fury Road” still looks awesome!
It’s been over a year since “Mad Max: Fury Road” was released in theaters. While some would call it a reboot, this film established itself as a new chapter in the “Mad Max” franchise and received quite a bit of praise from critics. Director George Miller prided himself on the minimal use of CGI and his implementation of more practical effects and now we have a visual perspective of the influence of CGI over the final product. Take a look at this newly released video below showcasing the stunt work of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” without CGI.
This video truly gives perspective as to why practical effects still have a place in the film industry. From what we can see here, the CGI seems to be purely supplemental in this film rather than a crutch like some other blockbusters. This is not knocking CGI as the technology has grown quite a bit over the years but “Fury Road’s” overwhelmingly positive reviews somewhat reflect the minimalist approach in regards to CGI. The hard working stunt people along with real cars and explosions gave us a film that’s both nostalgic and modern.
