Mobile game “Pokemon Duel” releases under our noses in US and Europe.
With the success (and decline) of “Pokemon Go,” a new mobile game from the Pokemon company could easily go unnoticed and it has. “Pokemon Duel,” which is more in the realm of collectible trading card game, hit US and European mobile app stores today without much press. The game has been available in Japan for quite some time under the name “Pokemon Comaster” and now other regions can experience the game under the newly titled “Pokemon Duel.”
Pokemon Duel is loosely based off of the Pokemon Trading Figure Game, a Japanese spinoff game that was seen as a mix of the Pokemon Trading Card game and collectible figure games like HeroClix.
Over in Japan, Pokemon Duel is known as Pokemon Comaster and has been out for nearly a year. Because of the lack of news about the game in the US and Europe, most fans assumed Pokemon Comaster would only be a Japan-only release.
The origins of Pokemon stem from Japan and being the originators, they also receive a lot of first release perks. When “Pokemon Go” released in Japan, envious fans found ways to bypass region restrictions and download the game for themselves. While “Pokemon Duel” may not share that same popularity, perhaps it will be enough of a reminder of the Pokemon company to get fans excited once more.
