Paul Reubens confirms Judd Apatow Pee-wee Movie

A new Pee-Wee movie produced by comedic genius Judd Apatow has been confirmed by Paul Reubens!

Paul Reubens recently confirmed that a Pee-Wee Herman film would start filming next year. Even more recently he appeared on “The Tonight Show” and revealed that the film’s producer will be none other than Judd Apatow and that filming would begin in February 2015.

Judd Apatow is the biggest name in comedy right now so having his name on a Pee-wee Herman film is guaranteed gold. It’s almost been 30 years since the “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” hit the big screen and now Judd Apatow is going to have to fill Tim Burton’s shoes. “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” was Tim Burton’s directorial debut and while the film was very funny, it also had its moments of darkness. I think many could agree that the “Large Marge” scene could definitely scare some of the younger audience members.

With Tim Burton creating such an obscure comedy, it will be interesting to see how Judd Apatow revitalizes the Pee-wee franchise. With films like “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” “Step Brothers,” and “Knocked Up,” it will be interesting to see where Apatow takes this film. I think that doing a Pee-wee Herman film will be Judd Apatow’s greatest challenge thus far. There are a lot of expectations from fans regarding how the film should be and while it may be funny, I’m not sure how the fanbase will respond. Overall I think that fans will be pleased as long as Paul Reubens gives us the performance that we’re used to but the modernization of Pee-wee Herman will not be as simple as we expect.
