“Paranormal Activity” is going more interactive with a virtual reality video game!
In a cross-promotional move for video games and film, “Paranormal Activity” will be hitting both theaters and select video game markets on October 24th. The free demo of the game will be released in select AMC theaters at the same time as Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. The demo will only be available via HTC Vive for now.
Russell Naftal of Beast Media Group claimed that October 24th could be considered “Paranormal Activity Day” in a joking manner. He made it apparent that the immersive experience they’re providing through a VR world would be unmatched by any other horror type game or film.
“The timing couldn’t be better for the reveal of our ‘Paranormal Activity’ VR Game Demo.” “We’ve created an entirely unmatched horror experience on this amazing new platform.”
While the demo has a limited release, the game itself is set to be released in 2016 on multiple virtual reality and gaming platforms. It will be available for play through multiple VR mounted headset displays including HTC Vive, Playstation VR, and Oculus. It will also be available via Steam, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. Outside of that, there is also a plan for mobile expansion at a later date.
Naftal recognizes the success of the “Paranormal Activity” franchise and expects that the video game market will continue the story after “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” ends the movie franchise.
“If this is successful, we hope to include more,” he said. “We’ll continue this as long as we possibly can.”
With the video game market continuing to surge and becoming more immersive, I think we can expect to see more films crossover into the video game world and vice versa. The VR experience with a horror game such as this could prove to be revolutionary for those that actually want to be part of a film.
How do you think a “Paranormal Activity” video game will affect the franchise?
