Is or isn’t he? We now know that Matt Reeves will be directing “The Batman.”
At one point it was being reported that War For The Planet Of The Apes Director Matt Reeves was in talks to direct “The Batman.” But following that report just last week, it was reported that discussions had firmly ended. Well while we were all taken for a bumpy ride, it’s now officially confirmed that Matt Reeves will both direct and produce the next Batman installment with Ben Affleck.
“The move follows reports that the studio’s talks with Reeves had broken down last week in the latest sign of trouble for the DC Comics property, a standalone follow-up to last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Signs of trouble for “The Batman” were seen earlier this year when Ben Affleck stepped down from both writing and directing the project. Further speculation led to reports of Affleck’s lack of interest in even playing the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, but now with Matt Reeves behind the project, we may have a glimmer of hope.
In addition to his most well known projects with the “Planet of the Apes” reboots, Reeves has quite a list of solid film credits to his name. The Bad Robot film “Cloverfield” has become a cult favorite over the years and “Let Me In” (a remake of “Let the Right One In”) is a personal favorite of mine. With what he’s brought to the table thus far, things are looking up for the potential of “The Batman.” We know that Matt Reeves can do action, we know that he can do dark, and with his upcoming “War For The Planet Of The Apes,” we know he can serve films on a large scale. This has been some of the best news I’ve heard thus far.
