The Super Nintendo World theme park makes some big Mario Kart promises!
The plans for Super Nintendo World were announced in May 2015 and now the first teaser trailer has arrived to establish expectations. Universal Studios has put together a short teaser of what guests can expect from the theme park as well as highlighting their key attraction themed around Mario Kart. Additionally the groundbreaking ceremony video was also released (see below) with additional details of what to expect.
At this point the details are a bit vague but we do know that the funding for Super Nintendo World is on the same level as Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Many of the standard theme park elements will be present including restaurants, rides, and attractions to build an “immersive experience.” As mentioned, the Mario Kart Experience is intended to be the main attraction and the claims are that it will be “an attraction unlike any the world has ever seen.” Of course what that means is currently left open to interpretation. Attendees are expected to feel as thought they are “playing inside Nintendo video games” as expressed by Shigeru Miyamoto himself.
The Super Nintendo World theme park is expected to launch in 2020 in Osaka, Japan. This is intended to coincide with the Tokyo Summer Olympics. At this point, it is unclear as to whether or not Super Nintendo World will make its way to the United States.
