New ‘The Witch’ Trailer Plays Eerie Game of Peek-a-Boo

“The Witch” brings a new trailer with a scary game of peek-a-boo!

There is a dreary stillness that surrounds A24’s horror film “The Witch.” We haven’t seen the typical jump moments or any sort of “monster” reveal. But one thing that remains consistent is the mystery and eeriness surrounding this independent horror film.

This latest trailer takes aim at childhood innocence with a game of peek-a-boo being played with a baby. It’s a simple concept that manages to stimulate the fear sector of one’s imagination and does so effectively. Take a look at the clip below.

From this clip we see the established subject matter of the film being carried out. When a baby goes missing, a family places blame on evil supernatural forces in the form of a witch. From an innocent game of peek-a-boo, we see the main character taking her eyes off the baby for only an instant to see the baby vanish without any trace or explanation.

“The Witch” has been making its rounds at various film festivals and is receiving stellar reviews. Many are calling it a pinnacle for the horror genre and from what we’ve seen in the trailers thus far I can see why. This seems like a film that leaves more to the imagination than other films in the genre. This may give audiences a chance to establish their own form of terror with “The Witch” making it a dynamic experience for audiences.

“The Witch” brings some newcomers to film. The cast is comprised of a list of actors that are either making their debut or have little exposure. The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger, and Lucas Dawson. While the film has been viewed at a few festivals, its official release date is February 19, 2016.

“The Witch” is definitely on my radar, is it on yours?
