“Voltron” is coming back and Guillermo del Toro is bringing it to Netflix!
Netflix, Dreamworks Animation, and Guillermo del Toro are all teaming up on a 1980s cult favorite series. “Voltron” will be coming to Netflix in a mini-series with Guillermo del Toro at the helm of the project.
While things have been shaky with “Voltron” rights, it seems things have finally settled down. The details surrounding the series are minimal outside of the confirmation that it’s happening. We don’t know a release date nor do we know the more intimate details of the series subject matter.
For those that are unfamiliar with “Voltron,” many describe it as a cartoon inspired by “Transformers.” I myself could see that inspiration but the series itself is far different from the “Transformers” series. It involves fighting robots but they are manned by human pilots. In addition, the individual robots can fuse together to form a larger, more powerful mech-type bot. If you’ve ever seen “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” show, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Each human controls a particular robot and they fuse together to form one giant, sword-toting robot.
Dreamworks has had a very good relationship with Netflix thus far. Bringing many valued and popular animated projects to the kids section of the streaming service, “Voltron” will be another addition. But while this project is geared towards kids, I’m sure that many adults that lived through the 1980s will be more than happy to share the “Voltron” experience with their own children…or maybe just watch it alone.
Are you excited for Guillermo del Toro creating a “Voltron” series? What are your expectations?
