MUBI Acquires ‘The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki’
Curated on demand service MUBI acquires Un Certain Regard winning film.
“The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki” is the feature debut of Finland’s Juho Kuosmanen and was the winner of this year’s Un Certain Regard at Cannes. The Un Certain Regard is a very prestigious part of Cannes as it is directly related to a film being an official selection of the festival. With “The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki” gaining this prestigious notoriety, the on demand service MUBI took notice and quickly acquired the film.
“We were looking for something really special at Cannes this year and in OLLI MÄKI we have found just that. Juho Kuosmanen is an incredible voice in which we see infinite talent. We are thrilled to be sharing this film exclusively with our subscribers.”- Efe Cakarel, MUBI’s founder
“The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki” tells the story of a Finnish boxer named Olli Maki. As a featherweight boxer in 1962, Maki sets out on a journey to become the world champion in his division. Jarkko Lahti stars in the film also gaining praise from the main sidebar section of Cannes, which recognizes young, international talent and innovative and daring works.
MUBI is known for its curation of quality films such as these and they should do a fine job with this film as well. While not as well known to mainstream audiences, a film gaining notice from MUBI carries a certain level of prestige with it as well.
“MUBI is a streaming video-on-demand platform that takes curation to the next level, hand-picking and premiering a new, classic, cult, or award-winning film each day. Each film stays on the site for 30 days.”
