Marvel Comics redefines Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch as NON Mutants

Marvel reestablishes Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch in their comic book storylines!

Comic books have become a hot commodity when it comes to source material for film. Of course with that source material comes a lot of copyright issues and the most complex is probably the shared rights of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch between the studios of Marvel and Fox. While comics have established their own identity for quite some time, it seems that the feud between these two studios has finally impacted the independence of comic books. According to recent debut of the comic “Uncanny Avengers” on Comic Vine, it turns out that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are no longer the mutant offspring of the mutant villain Magneto.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver are no longer mutants!

While this may seem like a minor detail, this could be the brink of something horrible for comic book fans. It was just announced last year that Marvel would no longer create any new mutants. More recently they ended their Fantastic Four series and killed off X-Men favorite Wolverine in “The Death of Wolverine.” This was all an apparent effect of the feud between Marvel and Fox regarding character rights. With yet another change to the source material with characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, this may prove that this feud has gone too far.

It’s obvious that Marvel has no interest in pursuing comic books that would just create “free marketing” for their Fox rivals, but what about the loyal fans? I’ve known Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as mutants ever since my Dad let me read his original X-Men comic books from 1963. Over 50 years later, Marvel has decided to reestablish the origins of these characters with some so-so storyline all due to a bitter rivalry. The chances of Fox and Marvel working together like Marvel and Sony working together are slim, but at what point will this feud have gone too far? People are continually wondering when the superhero bubble will burst and this type of rivalry may be the element that causes it.

What do you think? Has this Fox and Marvel feud gone too far?
