Mariah Carey to Play Commissioner Gordon or Mayor in ‘Lego Batman’

Mariah Carey is said to be the voice of Jim Gordon in “The Lego Batman Movie.”

(UPDATE) The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Mariah Carey will play the mayor, not Commissioner Gordon.

Although extremely unexpected, it is being reported that Mariah Carey is currently in discussions to voice the role of Commissioner James Gordon in “The Lego Batman Movie.” While this Warner Bros. spinoff from “The Lego Movie” has attempted to stay under the radar, it turns out their efforts have failed. If the discussions solidify Carey’s role, then she will join an already diverse cast of voice actors.

More recently it was reported that Zach Galifianakis will be voicing the Joker in the film which many also saw as an odd choice. Mariah Carey is an even odder choice with the role of Commissioner Gordon being a male role which means that most likely the character will be changing sex for the film. In addition to the surprising choices of Carey and Galifianakis, the film will also include Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Will Arnett as Batman, Michael Cera as Robin, and Rosario Dawson as Batgirl.

Zach Galifianakis to voice The Joker

Mariah Carey has been known for some terrible roles like starring in the film “Glitter” but she has received some acclaim for her role in “Precious.” Voice acting would be a new venture for her if she does indeed take the role of Commissioner Gordon but it would also be a change in the character which we have not seen before. It will be interesting to see what fans think of Gordon’s sex change. But if there are plans to change Jim Gordon to a Jane Gordon (maybe?) then “The Lego Batman Movie” would be a great platform to test the fanbase response. A Lego film would not catch nearly the backlash from the die-hard fans as a live-action film would. Either way, this will be some interesting news to follow as more details arise.

What do you think of Mariah Carey playing a possible female Commissioner Gordon?
