Focus Features November Release Details True Story Of The SCOTUS Case.
With just a few movies in his short career, Jeff Nichols is an emerging, young filmmaker who is on his way from a beloved auteur to an American treasure within the movie world. Ever since his debut in “Shotgun Stories,” Nichols seemed like a director to watch. I adored “Mud,” thought “Take Shelter” was unsettling (in a good way), and admired his recent release, the under appreciated “Midnight Special.”
His latest movie “Loving” is about an interracial couple from Virginia named Richard and Mildred Loving (portrayed here by Joel Edgerton and breakout actress Ruth Negga) who were sentenced to prison in 1958 for getting married. The movie opens in November during the height of Oscar season. Watch below:
“Loving” looks very promising from the trailer. From the brief clips and scenes, both Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga deliver emotionally raw performances. Nichols fans will be pleased to see Michael Shannon here, too. With its understated intimacy, poignant moments, and heartfelt story embodied in this trailer, “Loving” just became one of my most anticipated movies of the year. We will find out in November if it lives up to its promises.
