Lost ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Footage is an Emotional Robin Williams Revisit

Deleted scenes from “Mrs. Doubtfire” have surfaced showcasing a deeper side of Robin Williams’ character.

It’s been over a year but many are still mourning the loss of the generous and talented Robin Williams. He left us a legacy to honor him by and now footage has surfaced that opens the wound once again.

In the lost deleted scenes from “Mrs. Doubtfire” below, we see Daniel Hillard go through even more heartache after the reveal that he was actually Mrs. Doubtfire. Not only does he suffer from this reveal but so does his ex wife Miranda and their children. Take a look at the footage below.

The film already invoked an emotional response but these scenes just add to the heartache. The film knowingly ended in a bittersweet state but this footage brings an enlightening perspective to the period of not only Daniel’s but everyone’s mourning after the big reveal. While the film’s tone continually painted Daniel as the better parent, we see for a brief time that the children were starting to build some resentment towards him for the masquerade.

Outside of the story, these scenes show what an amazing actor Robin Williams truly was. Yes, “Mrs. Doubtfire” was a feel good comedy, but these scenes show Williams reach an emotional level far beyond the film’s tone.

The discussion between he and Lydia is filled with genuine love and adoration for her as his daughter. His scene with Miranda counters at the other end of the spectrum as their argument is filled with panic and rage.

These two scenes pitted against each other are a perfect example of Robin Williams’ range as an actor. And while it was a disappointment to see them cut from the film, like the film’s ending, to find them was bittersweet.

Tell us your thoughts on this footage. Would you have liked to have seen it integrated into the film?
