Lori Petty Says ‘Point Break’ Reboot Is ‘Stupid Sh*t’
Lori Petty claims the “Point Break” reboot is “stupid sh*t!”
I try to leave judgement at the door before seeing a film, but in the recent trailer for the “Point Break” reboot, I made my point known. It turns out that I’m not the only one making preemptive judgements. According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, original “Point Break” actress Lori Petty is not fond of rebooting the film. In fact she says that it’s “some stupid sh*t!”
“I think it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” she told The Hollywood Reporter of the reboot at the Orange Is the New Black premiere on Thursday in New York City. “Really? Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Kathryn Bigelow — what are you gonna do? What are you thinking? Stupid!”
“I got a phone call from my manager: ‘Why did you dis the new Point Break?’ Because that’s bullsh*t! That’s some stupid sh*t right there!”
I have to agree with Lori Petty and say that her outburst is justified and correct. There have been some reboots that have been good but they have a premise that can be rebooted. Without rehashing what I’ve previously said, I’ll sum it up by saying that you can’t intentionally recreate the unintentional. The original “Point Break” captured the spirit of a generation with its surfer mentality and bad puns. What happened in the first “Point Break” was a random occurrence of elements that cannot be recreated. The film is respected for both its bad and its good while this reboot seems to be just capitalizing on the name.
With that said, I personally thank Lori Petty for her comments. Someone needed to say it and she said it perfectly, even if it wasn’t said eloquently. While Lori Petty said her words and I’ve repeatedly said mine, I think Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) said it best.
They just want to get radical. It’s mindless aggression. They’ll never get it, the spiritual side of it.
