Recent Bond Girl Lea Seydoux is being courted by “Gambit” director Rupert Wyatt to star alongside Channing Tatum in 20th Century Fox’s recently slated X-Men spinoff flick.
According to Deadline, Rupert Wyatt, who most notably helmed Fox’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and Mark Whalberg’s “The Gambler” is set to direct the Cajun “X”-flick and is now courting rising French actress Lea Seydoux to take on the leading female role.
Josh Zetumer (“RoboCop” 2014) has also been announced as the film’s writer, and is said to be basing the screenplay on a uniqe story-arc penned by Gambit co-creator Chris Claremont. The project will be produced by Tatum himself in addition to Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.
Most popularly known for her work in “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Saint Laurent” Seydoux has remained busy with upcoming projects that include “The Lobster,” the installment in the James Bond franchise, “Spectre” and “It’s Only the End of the World.”
Seydoux has yet to publicly make note of her intentions moving forward with the project, thus this potential could very well perish well before it sees any progress. On the other hand if Seydoux does accept the X-offer, she’ll be placed opposite Tatum’s Gambit as the lethal Bella Donna Boudreaux, the cajun mutant’s childhood sweetheart turned head of the Assassin’s Guild.
Although audiences have seen very little evidence of Seydoux’s action-acting prowess, the upcoming 007 flick “Spectre” should be an indicator of how worthy she will be to join Fox’s cinematic “X”-family.
Lea Seydoux is repped by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME), United Agents and Agence Adequat.
“Gambit,” the cajun kinetic energy imparting superhero with a penchant for playing cards, is set to explode into cinemas on October 7, 2016.
