Marvel names “Breaking Bad’s” Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones in upcoming Netflix series.
Marvel has been pursuing their upcoming Netflix ventures. With Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll being attached to their Daredevil project, they now have new name for their next series. According to Deadline, Krysten Ritter has been selected as Jessica Jones. It was said that it came down to her and Teresa Palmer to play the part, but it was ultimately decided by a reading with Mike Colter, who is rumored to be Luke Cage.
I hear it came down to her and Teresa Palmer, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following‘s Mike Colter, believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage.
The series will consist of 13 episodes and will be the second series in the works from Netflix’s four part deal. Krysten Ritter’s role (Jessica Jones) will be a more dramatic role than we’re used to seeing her play. Jones will be a superhero that is suffering from PTSD and opens her own detective agency. Along the way she ends up collaborating with other superheroes and helping others in need. While she may be a familiar face when it comes to comedy, I think that Ritter has the capabilities to pull off a dramatic role based on her “Breaking Bad” performance. With this announcement, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Marvel/Netflix lineup looks like.
