Oliver Stone is courting Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the role of Edward Snowden in his upcoming film!
Edward Snowden, the man that divided the United States on the issue of freedom versus security. Some call him a hero and some call him a traitor but regardless of your side on the subject, it was only a matter of time before a film was to be made.
Oliver Stone will be the man behind the camera and he’s seeking Joseph Gordon-Levitt to be the man in front of the camera. Intentions are to start filming this December, so we can expect negotiations to be finalized soon.
Oliver Stone has set his sights on Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play asylum-seeking CIA leaker Edward Snowden in the movie that Stone and his producing partner Moritz Borman intend to shoot beginning in December in Munich.
I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He’s a talent that is extremely underrated as an actor even though he is so versatile. I have faith in his role, I’m just not sure how I feel about another political film by Oliver Stone.
While this film could be a source for a surge of political debate, it could also fly by under the radar like the Wikileaks film “The Fifth Estate” did, even though rising star Benedict Cumberbatch was cast in the starring role. Politically controversial films like these walk a fine line of falling into the realm of documentary when attempts are made to replicate the facts in an unbiased way and this film has the potential to do the same. Hopefully Oliver Stone is able to put together a stronger film than his other more recent films like “W.”
