Jamie Foxx loses sleep over his kidnapped son in upcoming action thriller “Sleepless.”
The Oscar winning Jamie Foxx dons a badge and busts heads in pursuit of his kidnapped son in the new action crime thriller “Sleepless.” According to the film’s official synopsis on IMDB:
A cop with a connection to the criminal underworld scours a nightclub in search of his kidnapped son.
Although you may be thinking this sounds a lot like a riff on “Taken,” it’s actually EXACTLY like another film… and I mean exactly. “Sleepless Night” is a French-Belgian-Luxembourgian thriller which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival with a positive reception in 2011. Here is the official IMDB synopsis for “Sleepless Night”:
A cop with a connection to the criminal underworld finds his secret life exposed when he and his partner are caught stealing cocaine from a powerful drug dealer, a move that puts his son’s life in jeopardy.
With an opening line that seems practically plagiarized, it makes me wonder if any twists will be added or if any plot points will be rewritten to make the film less predictable. Then again, dropping the “Night” from the title makes it different enough for me (he said sarcastically).
This also marks the first international movie for the film’s german director Baran bo Odar. With a good amount of action and a strong cast, featuring Foxx, Gabrielle Union (“Bad Boys II”), David Harbour (“Black Mass”), Michelle Monaghan (“True Detective”), T.I. (“Ant-Man”) and Dermot Mulroney (not to be confused with Dylan McDermott), this crime thriller looks entertaining… enough. At the same time, I won’t be losing any sleep while waiting for this cinematic doppelganger to hit theatres.
