“Furious 7” Director James Wan is reportedly on board with “Mortal Kombat!”

“Mortal Kombat” fans may start to rejoice now that Director James Wan is reportedly attached to the future film. According to ComingSoon.net, Wan is set to serve as a producer for the New Line Cinema and Broken Road “Mortal Kombat” movie. With this reported news, expectations for the film’s advancement are rising.

According the outlet, the Mortal Kombat movie will follow a male protagonist who becomes drawn into the interdimensional tournament, and who begins to realize his true potential as a result of the experience. The screenplay hails from “Legacy” scribe Oren Uziel and well as The Expendables and Godzilla‘s Dave Callaham.

It sounds as though the studios are pulling from as many creative resources as they can with the upcoming “Mortal Kombat” film. To date there have been two “Mortal Kombat” films that would be considered a success at the box office. In addition, the web series “Mortal Kombat Legacy” gained an abundance of followers and created a buzz for a more “adult” version of a film.

With Director James Wan as a producer, the studios may be taking this film and the fan buzz a bit more serious. James Wan has mostly been attached to horror films but with the success of “Furious 7” and the announcement of him directing Aquaman, he carries some serious clout for the film. Given Mortal Kombat’s pace for action and thirst for blood, James Wan’s blend of horror and action may just be the creative inspiration that the studios need for for the film. You cannot have a “Mortal Kombat” film without fatalities and Wan should be more than well suited to bring that aspect to the film in proper fashion.

What do you think? Are you excited for a “Mortal Kombat” film?

I really wish Legacy was able to proceed as it was originally envisioned.
