Guardians of the Galaxy Thoughts From Our 17 Minute Preview
We were fortunate enough to see a 17 minute preview of the next Marvel film “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Let me be the first to say that the small appetizer we got made me hungry for more.
The majority of the Guardians of the Galaxy preview revolves around their escape from prison and that escape is an elaborately comedic extravaganza. During their incarceration and escape you learn a good amount about each of the characters’ personalities and their attributes. While many of them fit their profile as perceived from the trailers, I must touch on Rocket Raccoon. Despite being a smaller, less intimidating character, he proves his worth through a combination of effective planning and mastery of weapons. He embraces his size and uses it to his advantage teaming up with more sturdy characters like Groot.
It’s also obvious from the trailers that this will be a more comedic and light-hearted film so it was no surprise when there was an abundance of snarky dialogue throughout the screening. What was surprising was that a majority of the characters had their own version of snarky retorts which could potentially be overbearing if continuous throughout the film.
Visually the film is colorful and smooth when viewed in IMAX 3D. I liked that the colors complimented the playful nature and also provided a lot of visual eye candy. The outer space landscapes are fluid and vast which gives reason to see the film on the big screen.
Although the preview was a short 17 minutes, I would say it changed my enthusiasm for the film. I’m interested to see what else the film has to offer and how it ties in with the other films in the Marvel universe.
