Frozen 2 Directors Teases a Change in Elsa

We may see a different side of Elsa in “Frozen 2.”

Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee teased a bit of a change when it comes to Frozen lead character Elsa and her role in “Frozen 2.” Based off of the emotional changes she underwent in the first film, the directors hint that she may actually “let it go” when it comes to her fear and reclusion.

In an interview with Fandango they highlighted aspects of another “Frozen” spinoff that may foreshadow some of Elsa’s changes. They seem to have used the short film “Frozen Fever” as a launching point for the evolution of Elsa’s character. In that short she was much more playful and had started to open up a bit emotionally.

[In Frozen] she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she’s just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again. That’s what was really good about the short [Frozen Fever] – we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality … you will see in the next one.

In a separate interview with MTV News, fans were reassured that both Elsa and Anna would share the screen in “Frozen 2.” While Elsa may be the star, they definitely want to push the sisterly bond between the characters.

We have two very strong female leads in Frozen. We will keep that going in the next one. We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with.

I think we’re very aware of what is happening in society. I don’t think any of us take [them] lightly, even though they can be very funny and entertaining, the messages that our movies have and the influence they can have on young people. When the kids [watch] them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don’t have a decent message in there, I think we’ve missed an opportunity.

The directors definitely note the social significance of the franchise and I think they’re hinting at “Frozen 2” being more about acceptance. While they didn’t clearly state their intentions, I’m sure that “Frozen 2” will influence many children with a brand new story, interesting characters, and another catchy song.

Do you want to see a happier more upbeat Elsa?
