Film Fad’s Top 4 Favorite Movies of 2015
Pooya’s Picks
4. Circle
Circle brings a unique idea and social commentary to screen with a refreshingly new, yet murderous, tale of fifty strangers whittled down to one in a game of survival. Showing the true power of a good film, this indy treat has made serious waves on Netflix even contending with many of the mainstream releases.
3. Ex-Machina
Coming in snugly behind that is Alex Garland’s artistic directorial debut with the cerebral science fiction thriller “Ex Machina.” Garland paints a unique and gripping picture of the future of artificial intelligence with a small yet highly talented ensemble cast consisting of Oscar Issac, Domhall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander. Garland’s unique vision breathes life into what was perhaps the best science fiction film of the year.
2. Straight Outta Compton
Perhaps the best dramatic film experience, and likely a strong contender for the Best Picture Academy Award, is the Gritty NWA story brought to screen in Straight Outta Compton. With fantastic acting, excellent music, precise direction and a provocative subject matter, “Straight Outta Compton” is a crown jewel of the 2015 film catalogue as it brings to life the real-life story of Hip-Hop legends Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Easy E.
1. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Last, but certainly not least, on my list is of course is “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” J.J. Abrams aptly re-ignites fan interest and enthusiasm, bringing the original Star Wars retro feel back to screen with a modern twist. After a decade of disappointment with the prequel films, Disney and Abrams managed to find the right mix of talent, story and nostalgia to kick-off a more anticipated and appreciated installment. We find the original cast joined by newcomers Oscar, Domhall Gleeson, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver for what is undoubtably the BIGGEST movie of 2015. Add a billion dollar gross at the global box-office to the adulating experience and it goes without saying that critics will be waiting to see what new director Rian Johnson will do with “Episode VIII” come 2017.
