Fede Alverez Eyed for ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel

Fede Alverez is being courted to direct “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

Still fresh off the success of last summer’s surprise horror hit “Don’t Breathe,” Director Fede Alverez is now being courted to helm long in development sequel to “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

The film would be based on the novel “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” which was published in August 2015.  Author David Lagercrantz took over writing for the series after the original author Stieg Larsson died of a heart attack back in 2004.  In the book, Lisbeth Salander and Mikeal Blomkvist once again team up against cyber criminals led by a mastermind with close personal ties to Salander.

The first film, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” was directed by David Fincher and starred Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.  The film was released back in 2011 and despite receiving five Oscar nominations (including Best Actress for Mara), it performed below Sony’s expectations grossing $232 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. This is one of the big reasons why Sony has been hesitant to move forward with a sequel until now.

Do you think Alverez is a good choice to direct?  Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
