John Schneider weighs in on Confederate Flag controversy, “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and “Smallville.”
While attending Wizard World in Richmond, Virginia, “Smallville” and “The Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider had a lot to say. We got into quite a discussion about the line between censorship and being politically correct, but he had a lot more to say than just debating a topic of controversy. He chose to highlight the fact that the “The Dukes of Hazzard” had never been a target of controversy before and was indeed quite wholesome. He also spoke about how “Smallville” was an initial launching point for many other superhero related programming. Take a look at the full interview below.
I understand what John Schneider is saying and if you’ve been a follower of Film Fad then you know that the negative connotations that are being associated with this symbol are not a reflection of us. If you listen to John’s response you can clearly hear that he is attacking the logic of the situation rather than trying to stir controversy. The idea that “Dukes of Hazzard” would be taken off the air after the amount of money spent due to newfound controversy is a bit frustrating. The show has been very innocent for years and even other publications couldn’t make the stretch to find negative connotations within the content of the show. What did shine through in this conversation was John Schneider’s passion for his craft and the frustration of seeing years of his work being put on hiatus.
I have to say that I respect filmmakers as a whole and that’s what John Schneider is truly passionate about. He’s been an iconic actor in film and TV for quite some time but he’s clearly not ready to quit the business. When he informed us of what he’s currently up to, I have to admit I was intrigued. He has decided to take the lead himself and has created John Schneider Studios in Louisiana. What’s interesting about this venture is that it’s not only beneficial to him, but other filmmakers as well. With a vast amount of space (58 acres) and professional equipment (including 2 sound studios), many independent filmmakers can achieve their cinematic dreams in this affordable, high quality studio. What makes John Schneider Studios so unique is that the Louisiana state tax credits create even more opportunities for independent filmmakers which they may not have had before. I thought this was a very respectable and noble move for John Schneider to take in furthering the development of independent films.
Check out John’s description of John Schneider Studios in the video below. It’s always nice to see when an iconic actor gets involved in projects like these to help independent filmmakers.
