From the writer of “28 Days Later” and “Sunshine” comes the sci-fi thriller “Ex Machina!”
Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson collaborate outside of their “Star Wars VII” filming to bring us “Ex Machina.” The film follows a similar A.I. plot that we’ve seen before but with an added sexual edge. The usual topics of evolution and human existence also come into play which should satiate the sci-fi lovers’ hunger for the future of artificial intelligence. Take a look at the teaser trailer below!
When the trailer began I immediately caught the presence of suspense like many other A.I. related films. Usually in these types of films it is the flaw of mankind that corrupts the perfection of engineered intelligence. In this case they introduce a flaw that even the most serene humans fall victim to and that is sexual desire.
In all honesty, isn’t this like a typical nerd’s sexual fantasy? Creating a woman that is intelligent and customized aesthetically to their liking almost falls into the category of sci-fi porn. While I’m not trying to relegate the film’s quality based on a small aspect of what it may be, I do think that I’ve seen a similar plot on late night premium cable channels…haha.
Outside of that humorous observation, I think that “Ex Machina” touches on a subject that differentiates itself from other films like this. With Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac attached with “Star Wars VII” releasing the same year, I think it may turn out to be a very interesting film.
