Ewan McGregor says “Trainspotting 2” is planned to start filming in 2016.
In a recent interview with Details Magazine Ewan McGregor opened up about a lot of things. He gave his thoughts on “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” spoke about his period of “partying,” and confirmed plans of filming a sequel to “Trainspotting” in 2016.
DETAILS: What are the odds of a Trainspotting sequel?
Ewan McGregor: It looks like it might happen. The idea is that we shoot it in 2016, which would be 20 years after the original came out. And I’d be up for it. I wouldn’t have been 10 years ago, but I am now.
“Trainspotting” was a complete acid trip. It was the most twisted film in regards to drug addiction of its time and uncomfortable to watch for some. It depicted the effects of drugs in such a negative light that it might have been more of a deterrent for drug use than any informational ad.
If things come together and the sequel is actually made, I will be surprised as to how they can create a plot with actual substance. “Trainspotting 2” (in my opinion) is a film that shouldn’t come to fruition because the first film ended at a point that should have brought closure to the story. If this happens, I feel like it may be yet another Hollywood attempt to capitalize on a successful film of the past.
