Does “Transformers: The Last Knight” Trailer Show Evil Optimus Prime?

“Transformers: The Last Knight” has a promising action packed new trailer and it may just be the best film of the franchise.

Snuggly nestled within the Monday Night Football half-time commercial break, “Transformers: The Last Knight” dropped their new trailer and it is packed with action and excitement. Anthony Hopkins chilling narration against a robotic rendition of The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize” questions where it all came from. The war is bigger, the explosions are bigger and the autobots… might be turning evil? While we see a shell of what was once the great Optimus Prime adrift in space at the beginning, The biggest question comes at the end as the reveal of “The Last Knight” seems to be an evil Optimus Prime?

Watch the “Transformers: The Last Knight” trailer below:

In the trailer we see that Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager and Josh Duhamel’s Lt. Colonel William Lennox are returning to the warzone, along with a few autobot faves like Bumblebee. The question of Bumblebee’s fate however is left hanging with this cliffhanger trailer ending. This grim toned fifth installment of the “Transformers” franchise will allegedly explore the history of Optimus Prime and Megatron, including the precursory events leading up to the conflict between Autobots and Decepticons. This film will reportedly reveal more of the Transformers involvement with shaping the Earth’s history. This likely has something to do with the rumored medieval flashback sequences we’ve heard about involving King Arthur and his knights, but have still yet to see.

Back in November, IMAX teased fans with behind-the-scenes look at the film. In the featurette fans get glimpse of the evolution of the Transformers franchise accompanied by director Michael Bay giving high praise to IMAX for its ability to capture a premium visual aesthetics, ultimately giving fans a small preview of the film.

Although the franchise has been profitable, the films have been met with, at times, harsh critical and audience reactions. Despite the negative press, the films promise a specific Michael Bay born CGI spectacle that is superficial, yet captivating. Judging by the trailer, “Transformers: The Last Knight” will undoubtedly provide the same level of action and spectacle fans of the franchise have come to expect. While the film seems to be culmination of the previous stories with a bit of origin elements thrown in, I wouldn’t expect to see any cameos by Shia Labeouf or Megan Fox… maybe a Witwicky mention at best.

“Transformers: The Last Knight” lands in theatres June 23, 2017.

Pooya: Since his wee lad-dom, Pooya has been a sommelier of cinema. It was likely some acting bug, fallen from the dust riddled ruby curtains of an enchanted old stage that did it. Those cinematic scarabs must have burrowed deep into his brain, irreversibly altering his mind, turning the poor boy down a dismal path. From his earliest years the strange boy would aimlessly wander the aisles of countless video rental stores, amassing his trivial knowledge with vigor. These actions befuddled the boy’s parents, who still would lovingly oblige his unusual attraction to the motion picture. Often seeking refuge in the cushioned seating of his local movie theater, the odd adolescent would immerse himself in the scripted and effects riddled realities unfolding on the screen before him. During his collegiate years, he was twice spotted on stage performing bizarre theatrical rituals before awe-struck audiences. When he departed from academia, he left behind his youth in exchange for a labor routine, but the strange young man never lost his long-cultivated love of film. Recently, Pooya was approached by FilmFad.com to join their budding team of entertainment bloggers. After hours of coaxing and an undisclosed number of honey jars, he accepted their offer. Finally he had come full circle. Finally, at FilmFad.com, he was home.
