The Avengers and X-Men may soon share the screen, but at what cost?
The Disney and Fox deal is just about finalized. This means that classic comic book storylines may better reflect their inclusion of the X-Men and Fantastic Four but could change the dynamic of Fox’s most successful individual property. The R-rated “Deadpool” could potentially have some changes that would impact the integrity of the current franchise. Ryan Reynolds himself took to Twitter to pose the question.
As far as the acquisition is concerned, things are progressing in a very amicable fashion. Both parties seem to be very satisfied with the deal and despite other parties showing interest in 20th Century Fox, Disney has been the preferred choice of the company. From both a financial and strategic perspective, this deal seems viable and likely to be closed soon.
“21st Century Fox Inc., the global film and TV company controlled by the Murdoch family, would prefer to sell some assets to Walt Disney Co. because it’s a better strategic fit and presents fewer regulatory hurdles, people familiar with the matter said,”
Despite the potential sacrifice of the “Deadpool” franchise, this deal will have a bigger impact than Marvel Entertainment’s partnership with Sony to share Spider-Man. Additionally, Disney may even preserve the integrity of “Deadpool” by allowing him to be related to the MCU but act more as a single entity like we’ve seen with some of the more gritty Netflix series. But for now, let’s revel in the fact that the comic book universe is expanding for the better and Disney has a proven track record of creating quality films in the genre.
