FXX will debut a Deadpool animated series in 2018.
Setting course for 2018, FX Networks has ordered an animated series for the popular Marvel character Deadpool. The animated series is being described as “adult action-comedy” which fits right into the character’s persona. Additionally, “Atlanta” star and creator Donald Glover will be serving as the show’s executive producer which FX Networks is wholeheartedly behind.
“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” said Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. “With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”
Donald Glover and his younger brother and “Atlanta” co-writer Stephen Glover will also be serving as co producer. Both siblings will additionally serve as showrunners alongside Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory. Marvel Television, FX Productions, and ABC Signature Studios will be the production studios behind the project.
This will be the second Marvel Television project to debut on the FX Network with the highly anticipated show “Legion” being the first. While Legion is a lesser known character and the show had a bit of obscurity, the popularity of Deadpool should capture the attention of audiences. And with the success of FX’s other adult animated series “Archer,” the Deadpool animated series may have found its perfect fit.
