Netflix brings together David Fincher and Charlize Theron for a new series!
Charlize Theron and David Fincher are teaming up to bring a new series to Netflix. Based on the bestselling John Douglas and Mark Olshaker book “Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Serial Crime Unit,” the series will be titled “Mindhunter.” The story follows a rather dark path based on some of John Douglas’ more high profile FBI cases. These cases include some of the worst criminals such as rapists and murderers.
If you’re unfamiliar with John Douglas you may still be familiar with his inspired characters. He has served as the inspiration for FBI agents in film including Jack Crawford in”The Silence of the Lambs” and Will Graham in “Red Dragon.” He also is said to be an inspiration for the popular CBS series “Criminal Minds.”
“Mindhunter” may seem like a new concept but it has actually been on the table for around 6 years. Charlize Theron and David Fincher were originally collaborating with HBO but the project laid dormant. After two other attempts with HBO to make other series titled “Utopia” and “Video Synchronicity,” Fincher and HBO parted ways due to HBO’s hesitancy to meet Fincher’s budget requirements. Fincher then took his original project “Mindhunter” to Netflix.
Charlize Theron and David Fincher are set to serve as executive producers for “Mindhunter” but there is currently no word on when we will see this series. Hopefully Netflix will push to get things moving so that they don’t make the mistake of losing David Fincher like HBO did.
Do you think HBO made a mistake by passing on David Fincher? Do you think this Netflix series will be another hit?
